Matthew 22:34-40
The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Matthew 5:43-48
Love for Enemies
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Romans 3:22-23
Everyone Has Sinned
22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Luke 10:36-37
Have Mercy on Our Neighbors
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Like our neighbors sin, we also sin...We have this in common with our neighbors...
Jesus tells us to love our neighbors...
He also teaches us to Love our enemies....And He teaches us that everyone who needs mercy is a neighbor...St. Paul teaches us, as well as Jesus, that we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of the LORD...
So He wants us, to not only Love our friends and family, for who will get rewarded for that...He wants us also to Love our enemies, and everyone in between...Everyone we meet is to be Loved...And when we do this, we will be perfect, like our heavenly Father is perfect...
It is very difficult, to love our enemies...It maybe even more difficult to be perfect like our heavenly Father is perfect...But our goal when we reach His kingdom is to be able to do these things, and to very much try to do these things on our way to His kingdom in heaven...
