Genesis 11:10-32
From Shem to Abram
10 This is the account of Shem.
Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. 11 And after he became the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12 When Arphaxad had lived 35 years, he became the father of Shelah. 13 And after he became the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
14 When Shelah had lived 30 years, he became the father of Eber. 15 And after he became the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16 When Eber had lived 34 years, he became the father of Peleg. 17 And after he became the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18 When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu. 19 And after he became the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20 When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug. 21 And after he became the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22 When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor. 23 And after he became the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24 When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah. 25 And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26 After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.
27 This is the account of Terah.
Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29 Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. 30 Now Sarai was barren; she had no children.
31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.
32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.
Genesis 14:8-16
Abram Was a Hebrew
8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim 9 against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills. 11 The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away. 12 They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
13 A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.
Matthew 5:17-20
Jesus Fulfills the Law and the Prophets
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Noah had three sons...We are not told that Noah is a Hebrew...If Noah was a Hebrew, then everyone on earth after the flood would be Hebrew...Shem is one of the sons of Noah, who made it through the Great Flood...Terah was a distant-distant grandson of Noah and Shem...Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot and settled in the town of Haran...Terah had another son by that name, Haran, and also a son named Nahor...Haran's son was Lot, which made Lot, Abram's nephew...In the lineage writings, we are not told if all these descendants are Hebrew...But in the middle of Abram or Abraham rescuing Lot, it is written and a man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew...We know now that Abram and surely his closest of kin are Hebrew...And being a Hebrew, Abram most likely spoke Hebrew...This may be the first mention that Abraham is a Hebrew in the Bible...Our first and important Patriarch spoke Hebrew...
The Hebrew Bible is from the Hebrew language and is a Hebrew Book...The Hebrew language was the language of the Israelites and of the Jews and Hebrews...Much is written about Abraham and his family and descendants...
The Hebrew background and the language is an interesting one...The Biblical Hebrew language had a small number of words...A Biblical Hebrew web site, says that the original Hebrew Biblical language had only 6,600 words...The ancient Hebrew writers might and would have had to use a word in their writings that had different meanings...And the Biblical authors, no doubt wrote the true and accurate and inspired word of God...Hebrew words, phrases, and expressions could be interpreted somethings more than one way...So different rabbis would read the Scripture the same way, but they could at times, if not at many times, interpret it different, with this language of a few words, which may have been given more than one meaning to the different teachers...
The spoken language during Jesus time was Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic...I would say that Jesus was multilingual...He was a Most Unique Teacher...And because of His unique background and coming from above, He would have interpreted the Bible as it was originally written...He interpreted it properly through His teachings and parables...He came to earth to fulfill the writings of the Bible and Old Testament...And He did...
