John 18:33-37
Jesus is King
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
34 "Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?"
35 "Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?"
36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."
37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
John 14:6
The Way, the Truth, and the Life
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Matthew 5:38-48
Eye for Eye
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 22:34-40
The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We are right in saying that Jesus is our King...We are right in saying the He is our LORD and our God...We are right in saying that He is the Truth, the Way, and the Life...We are right in saying that He is the only Way to God...And we are right in saying that God resurrected Him from His death on the cross and that He has Risen...
And for me, I believe that One has to be Divine to start a religion...I believe that One has to be Divine to do miracles, such as creating the heavens and earth...I believe that One must be Divine to raise another from the dead...And thus I believe in God and His Son...
Jesus is the One directly and indirectly responsible for creating the religion of Christianity...His teachings and deeds are the foundation and basis of Christianity...He shows us Truth and Grace as He walked among us...So of course, there would be no Christianity without Jesus...And through all Jesus teachings and deeds, in showing us how to forgive others, love others, show mercy on others -we have Christianity...And He shows and talks about this in His different Parables and teachings and actions...He was always teaching forgiveness and mercy...
And He showed us how we are slaves to sin...And since we are slaves to sin, He showed us how much LOVE He has for us when He died on the on the cross for our sins...And as one reads through the gospels and the entire New Testament, we see that Christianity is not some just old teachings and a stale philosophy...We find that Christianity is a personal relationship religion that very much shows mercy, forgiveness, and love to God and each and all of our neighbors...Even the neighbor that is our enemy, and even the one who slaps us, and steals our coat...Christianity lives, just as our Master lives...
