The LORD Reigns
1 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;
indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
2 Your throne was established long ago;
you are from all eternity.
3 The seas have lifted up, Lord,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea—
the Lord on high is mighty.
5 Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
holiness adorns your house
for endless days.
Matthew 5:1-12
Sermon on the Mount
1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Luke 6:17-26
Sermon on the Plain
17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
"Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when men hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23 "Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.
24 "But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you,
for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.
Our Father in Heaven reigns -and He must...God must be in Absolute control...He fine tunes the universe from man...He is the One who established the world, and makes it firm and secure...Our Father is the Alpha and the Omega...He is for all eternity...He made the great seas and oceans and created all things, for He is Mighty...He is Absolutely Moral...He is Absolute Truth...He is our Absolute Meaning...He is our Absolute Hope, which is the anchor to my and the believer's very soul...
God does not think like man, thankfully...And man does not often enough think like God, and this is sad...We can tell this (difference in the way man thinks and God thinks) by studying the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain...
God is in control...And for me and my life -He has to be...Without Him there is no firm and secure world...I need God personally in my life and for Him to be in control of the universe...Without Him the world would be completely led by the majesty of man...What man says would go (and go completely), if we have no LORD...Without our LORD man moves way up the control chain, because without God -man is in control...Without God there is no Absolute Truth, no Absolute Morality, no Absolute Meaning, no Absolute Hope, and no Perfect Love...Man would be in control of the world's morality, the meaning of life (the meaning of life would become evolution and randomness)...I think, I and many others would lose hope...We would have to place our hope in a group of men and women in each nation...Right now the much of the world from a human perspective is ran by a group of elected officials...Some nations have dictators...These politicians and dictators run our current world -and they would gain more power, if there is no God...How could they not get more power?...
There probably would be some scientists and evolutionists thinking, if they find out that we have no God, that that would be good -and man could enjoy life more without Him...The optimistic atheist might even think there would be world peace, without God...I think they are wrong...Have they deeply reflected that life needs meaning, and life needs hope?...I think man more and more would ask is that all there is...And I do not think that is not enough for believers, with their hope coming just from man...
Man is always looking for comfort, and something for him that is pleasing and satisfying...This in itself is not right or wrong, but without God -would different men go to different lengths for their personal satisfaction and comforts...I think that is one of the reasons Jesus gives us these two great sermons -the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain...Life would come down, in my opinion, to what I and man desire the most, what gives me and man their greatest pleasure, what is next in line for what I and man wants...What makes man the most comfortable...Desires and comfort-ability would (I believe) take on much greater meaning...The strong would surely reign and survive in a world without meaning and with man in control...After all, life would now be random, as would our very thoughts, beliefs, and sensations (all from random evolution)...Our Bible would become fiction...How sad a world that would be...
