John 6:61-66
Following God in this World
61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
Matthew 5:27-30
The Spiritual World Has Obstacles from This World
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
When Jesus tells us that the flesh counts for nothing, I believe that He was telling us that in the Spiritual sense, this world and our experiences in this world is shaping us in who we are and what we will be...Even though we are influenced by the Holy Spirit, and by our soul, it seems that the the flesh of the body is the most influential shaping of our personal experiences, including our mind...While most men's worldview is shaped by this world and what happens in this world, Jesus was not influenced by this world and His flesh...It seems we live by this world's judgment, while Jesus was completely influenced by God's judgment...
God's judgment and the Spiritual World meant everything to Jesus...Jesus knew and knows it is God's Kingdom that really matters...The Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing...That is why I think Jesus tells us if your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away...It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell...And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away...It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell...And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul...Rather fear God who can destroy both soul and body in hell...
We can see from Jesus' Teachings the importance of God and Heaven...
