John 14:6-7
Jesus is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Matthew 5:17-20
Jesus Fulfills the Law of Moses and the Prophets Writings
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 12:1-14
Jesus is LORD of the Sabbath
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them.2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.
Jesus is Truth...He is Absolute Truth...And Jesus is our LORD of the Sabbath...Jesus knows all Truths...And if anyone knows about the Sabbath, it would be Him...And the Sabbath is Holy...Jesus is the Sabbath...Jesus also knows the Laws of Moses and the Books that the Prophets wrote better than anyone...Jesus is the Bible, when we think about it...And Jesus is a rational and logical Man in what He did and does, in applying and explaining Scripture...And He proves these things of being reasonable, logical and rational throughout the gospels...
One day He and His Disciples were walking through some grainfields on the Sabbath, and He began to pick some heads of grain and began to eat them...Now strictly speaking He was picking and then eating the grain, and the Pharisees point out He is breaking the Law of Moses...By picking the grain heads and eating them, He is working and preparing a food (in the eyes of the Pharisees)...The Pharisees literally are looking at the Law of Moses in a narrow view...Jesus reminds the Pharisees that David and his companions were once very hungry and they ate consecrated bread in the synagogue...And that was alright, because hunger is a basic need, and it is God who gives us our daily bread...And on that Sabbath, David and his companions got his daily bread in the synagogue from a priest...Jesus also mentions that the priests on the Sabbath, at times do more than is necessary and what they do might be considered work, yet the priests are innocent...Food preparation was not proper on Sunday in Mosaic Law...Jesus gave the Pharisees logical and truthful answers on questions about the Sabbath...Jesus tells us why just following rules, is not the way to follow God...Moses Law was not written to harm man, but to help him...The Pharisees were inconsistent on how they interpreted the Law of Moses and Jesus was not...Jesus is telling us in a most overarching way that God does not want to harm us, but to help us and LOVE us...Jesus by healing a man who has had a shriveled hand for years is what God wants...He wants us to help others, even on the Sabbath, and not just be a follower of rules...
