Luke 2:41-52
The Boy Jesus at the Temple
41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
John 5:36-40
The Old Testament Scriptures Testify About Jesus
36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
Luke 4:16-21
Jesus Read in the Synagogue
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21 and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Matthew 5:17-20 (KJV)
Jesus Came to Fulfill the Old Testament Scripture
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
John 4:11-26
Jesus Admits He is the Messiah
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
Do you believe the Old Testament Scripture?...Is this historical Scripture just too old to be true?...
The old believers of the Bible believed in the reliability of the Word of God and the Word of Scripture and the Old Testament...They had no New Testament, and therefore the Word of the Old Testament writings...The old believer's believed in the Old Testament, and Jesus had not arrived at this time...But God would send Jesus later...
And Jesus' believed in this Scripture...Jesus believed this about this Scripture and was often quoting the Old Testament of the Bible, as were many of the New Testament writers...So, if you believe in Jesus, I believe you have to believe in the Old Testament as He did, because He fulfills the Old Testament Scripture and the Prophecies about the Old Testament Messiah...
As one reads the four gospels and the rest of the New Testament, whether they be believer or non-believer, we can see that all the different authors have a very consistent, historical view of who Jesus was...Now the non-believer an the non-believer in today's "modern world" may not believe in Him or have faith in Him, but they should still be able to see all the different author's consistent writings about Him in the New Testament -especially about when He came, who He was, and what He did...So at the very least we have a certain consistent and view of what many different people thought that Jesus did, and what they thought about Him...And that is if you believe what these different New Testament authors wrote...And their basis was the Old Testament...
We see that Jesus starts at a young age with the Old Testament Scripture as being His guide...At age twelve He was sitting among the teachers in the Temple, listening to them...Everyone in the Temple who heard Him was amazed at His understanding and His answers of Scripture...And at a latter age Jesus would say that He did not come to earth to destroy the Old Testament Law and the Books of the Prophets, but He came to fulfill the Old Testament Scripture, and that He is the Messiah, that was to come from the Old Testament Scripture, and that not one word of Old Testament Scripture would be changed...And in Luke's Gospel he writes, that the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Jesus...Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: "The Spirit of the LORD is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor...He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor...Then Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down...As the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him, He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."...
These things were done because Jesus is God's Word, and therefore He is the Bible...So He knows every Word of the Bible, and He fulfills the Bible...
Therefore, I believe, that if one believes in Jesus that it is He that who gives us the best interpretation of the Old Testament, through His Parables and Teachings and His descriptions and views on God, whom He calls His Father...Therefore, with this in mind, Jesus is the Complete Authority of the Bible, both of the Old and New Testament...So the gospels of Jesus and all the New Testament are read and believed by the believer in how he views both the Old and New Testaments...So how one believes the Old Testament and what is in it, is for the most part, if not all of the Old Testament is believed, because of Jesus...So for many the belief in the Old Testament comes from faith and the belief in Jesus, because He fulfilled its Prophecy and is the Messiah, as it (the Old Testament) describes...So if Jesus was and is the One to come and is the Messiah from the Old Testament Prophecy, then it makes sense that He is the Definitive Authority of the Old Testament and that He does fulfill it...So we can believe that Jesus regards the Old Testament as a Sacred and Divine Book about Him and the teachings in it are also His teachings...We can deduce this, because He fulfilled the old Testament and as He taught His Disciples, Apostles, and others who followed Him He took the lessons from the Old Testament and applied them to His teachings...So Jesus is the Supreme One in verifying the Old Testament...His testimony is the One who gives God Supreme Authority and makes the Old Testament Scripture truly the book and books that were being inspired by His Father...
