Matthew 5:3-12
The Beatitudes
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Blessed are those who mourn...Blessed are those who are meek...Blessed are those who are hungry...Jesus paints a different picture of earth as we see it...On earth, we do not want to mourn, we want to be happy...On earth, we do not want to be meek and weak, we want to be and we want our children to be strong...On earth, we do not want to be hungry, we want to have plenty to eat, or at least our daily bread each and every day...
Jesus shows us how differently His Kingdom is versus earth, as He gives His sermon of the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount...Jesus teaches us to think with our hearts as we live...He teaches us the eternities...There are things that we think and take a lifetime thinking about, that are only fleeting while we are here on earth...Things such as fame and fortune, will pass on earth...We should be focused on the heart, the Spirit, our soul, and our Father instead of the so called earthly great things such as power, fame, and wealth...
The things we should fear are not the things that destroy the body...We should fear the LORD...The true things that should bother us and we should fear are the One that can destroy the soul (Matthew 10:28)...The body is just a moment in time and a slight thing when compared to the eternities of our soul...Jesus proves this when He overcomes death, in His resurrection...He is eternal...His earthly body is now gone...He is in heaven with God...God has proven to everyone with the Sign of Jonah that He can raise the dead body and unite it with the soul (Matthew 12:38-45)...Only God can take one that is mourning, and meek, and hungry and give them eternal happiness...
