Deuteronomy 18:14-22
The Prophet
14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
17 The LORD said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”
21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
John 5:46
The Prophet Moses Wrote About
46If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
1 Kings 19:9-18
The LORD Appears to the Prophet Elijah
9 And the word of the LORD came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
11 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
15 The LORD said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 17 Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
Matthew 17:1-13
The Transfiguration of Jesus and the Prophets
1After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." 8When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
10The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"
11Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." 13Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
Luke 16:19-31
Listening to Moses and the Prophets
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Matthew 5:18
Old Testament Scripture
18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
John 14:6
I AM The Road Map
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Road maps are important when we travel...They get us to the right places...They show us where to go...When we are on the road to heaven, we do not want to take the wrong turn and wind up being where we do not want to be or go...God's word is our road map...When we are lost and confused, we are to listen and read the words of Moses, our Prophets, and our LORD...
Jesus is our way to God...In fact, He teaches us He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...He is our road map...He is the Only Way...Before Jesus we had Moses and the Prophets...They were our road map to God, before Him...Some non-believers do not believe in Moses or what he wrote...Some non-believers do not believe in the Prophets and what they wrote, and some don't believe in Jesus...Some people do not believe that He rose from the dead...Jesus in the parable of the beggar named Lazarus, the rich man has died...The rich man is in hell, and Lazarus is in heaven...The rich man is convinced that once his family sees the dead Lazarus resurrected that his family would believe that there is a God...He is convinced, only after his death, that God exists...And a resurrection appearance (of Lazarus) will be the road map for his family to see that there is a God, and that He does exist and also that Jesus really is Divine...
Jesus wants us to believe in Him...But He also wants us to believe in what Moses wrote and the Prophets wrote...When Jesus came to earth, He took Peter, James, and John up the sacred mountain and the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah...The two Old Testament Prophets saw and talked to Jesus...While they were on the mountain, God came and spoke to them...He told them He was well pleased with His Son...Listen to Him...
We do have a road map to heaven, and Jesus is telling us it existed even before He came to earth...He (Jesus) was written about by Moses...He was the Prophet to come...He was the One to come...He is our Messiah...We must listen and read what Moses said and believe in them as we believe in Jesus...The Old Testament will not change by even the least stroke of a pen, until all that God plans and His Divine Design is accomplished...The Scripture is the Truth, both Old Testament and New...If we can't believe in the Old Scripture, how can we believe in Him..
God in His wisdom gave us the Bible...He sent His Son to help us to understand it better, and to save us...Jesus is the road map to God...God told us when His Son, and Moses, and Elijah were on the mountain, we are to listen to Him...We are sometimes given instructions to turn here or turn their by others when we are lost...We do not want to take the wrong turns on the Highway to Heaven...The journal on this road is a faithful and persistent one...If we do not listen to Him, we will get lost...If we listen to God's Son and do His will, we will get there and arrive on time at Godspeed and by His Divine Design...
