Matthew 5:13-16
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Jesus wants us to be salt ...Then we will seek to show others our love for Jesus, and His LOVE for us...There is an unconditional LOVE in His Light...His Light is a belief and faith in Jesus...We can use our faith and our understanding of Him to help others follow the Light...A Light is no good if it is covered and never shown or seen...Let us seek the Light...As followers of Jesus, we believe in the Word of God and see God's Word as Truth...We need to interact with the world and others to show them the Light...We cannot live with the knowledge and awareness and faith in Jesus by ourselves only, or in isolation with others...He is to be shared...Where two or more or gathered He is there...Jesus gives us this commission to be salt, spread His Word that will never pass, so others will see the Light of the World...He does not want us just to be a weak feeble light, but a Light of Great Fullness, like Him...And after Jesus' three years of His ministry, He had fully illumed Israel...Now He wants His Disciples to continue His Commission through us to show others the fully illumined Light of the World...
Theologian John Calvin wrote, “The LORD held to this orderly plan in administering the covenant of His mercy: as the day of full revelation approached with the passing of time, the more He increased each day the brightness of its manifestation...Accordingly, at the beginning when the first promise of salvation was given to Adam it glowed like a feeble spark...Then, as it was added to, the light grew in fullness, breaking forth increasingly and shedding its radiance more widely...At last—when all the clouds were dispersed—Christ, the Sun of Righteousness, fully illumined the whole earth.”...
