Color Modifier
Rarity: Rare
Pearl is a natural base coat modifier that creates a metallic pearlescent sheen on the Rukaan's coat. This modifier alters the hair structure itself, making the coat noticeably softer and silkier than a standard animal. It is this smooth structure that reflects the light far more than normal hair and so this modifier sits atop ALL other markings, including white markings. It is based on the "Akhal-Teke" sheen found in that breed of horse.
Optionally, pearl can also lighten other markings including black markings. It will not increase their saturation.
Special Note: When submitting a design with Pearl to Design Approval, you will also need to include a version of the design without the pearl layer, as pearl can make it difficult for design approval staff to see the underlying design.
Pearl covers the entire coat.
Shown above is the maximum detail and contrast allowed for pearl.
Texture: Pearl should be soft and smooth. it should never be textured or hard-edged but may have soft fur texture on longer coated mutations.
Color: Pearl may take on lighter versions of the base coat and markings it sits above, but should not be white unless on a white base or marking. It may also take on muted colors found in the background to create some variation and help it feel 'reflective of its surroundings'
On longer coats, Pearl will follow the length and direction of the hairs.
Markings and Modifiers:
Pearl is a metallic sheen that affects the entire coat and will go over all other markings (including white markings) and all other modifiers.
Pearl can optionally slightly lighten some markings beyond their normal lightness range.
Mutations:
Pearl can optionally affect albino and melanistic Rukaans.
In chimeric Rukaans, pearl will only affect the hairs on the sections of the Rukaan which have pearl.
Pearl is based on the Pearl dilution in horses and the "Ahkal-Teke shine".
There is a free resource available with pearl layers for all coats:
This resource is free to use but to use them you MUST credit the artists who took the time to create this resource and make it available to you.
