Marking Type: White Marking
Rarity: Uncommon
Blanket Appaloosa is a natural marking that creates unique and striking white patterning across the Rukaan's back and rump with or without holes showing the color underneath. It does not have to be symmetrical. It is based on the Blanket Appaloosa white marking in horses.
Blanket Appaloosa spreads from the hips of the Rukaan towards the legs and ribs. It should never touch the legs or shoulder.
Illustration above shows minimum amount of blanket. Blanket should originate from the hips and at least partially occur in this minimum range.
Shown above is the maximum range and maximum extent for the marking. Marking can cover this entire range.
Typical Expressions of Blanket Appaloosa.
Blanket Appaloosa is a hard or slightly soft edged marking. It can be solid OR display spotting within the white area. Spots must show the base color and markings that appear underneath the blanket. They may vary in size and density but should never mimic Roan. Larger spots may also create a 'halo' effect around them, but should still retain a hard edge. This hard edge can be roaned or speckled.
Spots in the blanket appaloosa will show through the coat beneath. The spots should not carve out so much of the blanket appaloosa that it looks like piebald.
Blanket Appaloosa must be white or very slightly off-white.
The "spots" in the blanket are not darker, but simply holes in the white pattern that show the color that is underneath.
This marking lightens the skin to pink when it covers the skin such as under the tail. See the flesh color guide.
Effect on Metal and Gemstone elements: None
Effect on Ancient element: Can cause white on antlers. See elements guide.
Blanket Appaloosa may flow with the direction of the fur on coat types with longer hair.
Splash Accents with Blanket Appaloosa
Splash accents can merge with white markings such as blanket appaloosaColor Modifiers do not affect the color of this marking.
All Other Markings (except pearl and sometimes scorch marks) go under white markings.
Other White Markings can merge with this marking. All white markings are caused by the failure of pigment to form, so all white markings on the same Rukaan will be the exactly the same shade of white.
Blanket Appaloosa is based on the Blanket Appaloosa pattern in horses, including the spotted blanket and snowcap (fewspot) varieties.
