Rukaan breed according to in-game seasons with autumn being the most fruitful season. Four breedings may be posted by each user per month in autumn, three in winter or summer, and two in the spring.
June to August || 3 Breedings Per Month
Rukaan usually produce a single calf, sometimes have twins (1/5) and rarely will give birth to triplets (1/50). All calves born to wild does will be wild and all calves born to tame does will be tame, though this can later be changed by completing the Passage of True Calling.
In order to breed your Rukaan you need :
An unrelated male and female (no inbreeding: this means no ancestor can appear in the lineage section of the imports of both parents)
Both Rukaan must be at least Thrall ranking to unlock breeding
Both Rukaan must have a breeding slot permission for the breeding posted to the breeding permission section of their import sheet (even if the breeding is submitted by the owner)
Rukaan have 10 breeding slots available at Thrall level and gain an additional 5 with each additional rank they gain for a possible total of 30.
Please note: breeding permissions to a starter or NPC can be traded for in-game items but cannot be sold for USD or other currency. Starter permissions may be sold for currency if they were purchased for USD, but may not be sold for more than the original purchase price.
With the onset of unnatural perpetual winter in Midgard, Rukaan have seen a steep decline in successful breeding. Creating new life is not impossible, however! Dedicated Rukaan who are able to fight their way up the rankings to prove their worthiness or obtain particular items will find increased success at producing progeny.
The chance of an unsuccessful breeding is around 75% for a breeding between two Thralls with no supplemental items. Breeding success increases when breeding Rukaan of higher ranks. There is a 100% success rate for a breeding between two Marauders. See table below for success rates based on parent rank.
Breedings to starters will always have a 100% success rate.
In case of an unsuccessful breeding, all breeding slots and items applied to the breeding are still used. It is not recommended to risk items on breedings that are unlikely to be successful!
Before February 5, 2022, an unsuccessful breeding meant no calves were born.
After Feb 5, 2022: With the progression of the lore storyline, Midgard has started to see progress in the move out of the depths of winter! It isn't spring yet, but there are changes in the air. An unsuccessful breeding can now result in:
No calf
One* antlerless calf (will have no antlers shown on their import sheet)
One* infertile calf (will not be able to breed)
*Note that this will override any items such as joy runes that are used to guarantee multiple calves in a breeding.
Both antlerlessness and infertility can be overturned by reaching Marauder rank and using their blessing, or by using an Odin’s Eye token at the Wishing Well.
If you prefer, you can specify that you want to opt out of defects when posting a breeding. If you choose to do this, the breeding will be rolled as it was in the past with an unsuccessful breeding always leading to no calf.
The pass rates for various features (markings, base color, coat type, antler type and antler element) are not publicly available, but in general the rarer features are less likely to pass than the more common ones. The rarity level of each feature can be found in the Design Guide.
An offspring's coat type, antler type, and base color will be inherited from one parent or the other.
Offspring have a chance to inherit any marking or modifier either parent has with more common markings being more likely to pass than rare markings. If both parents have a marking, it is more likely to pass than if only one parent has it. Because no marking is guaranteed to pass it is always possible to get a calf with no markings, though it is less likely in breedings where the parents have more markings.
For common and uncommon antler elements there is a bit of random chance involved and the offspring will inherit an element from the same rarity TIER as one of the parents, but not necessarily the same element. So a copper (common) x bronze (common) breeding could give you a copper, bronze, or iron baby. Offspring who roll for the gemstone element may choose their gemstone.
In breedings with a split element Rukaan, the antler element and hoof element are rolled separately for inheritance. If the calf inherits the same element for the hoof and antler, they are no longer split as they have a single element. If the calf inherits different elements for hooves and antlers they are themselves split, and can pass this on to their own offspring. When using Bluetooth's Treasure in a split element breeding, the player may choose to pass on one parent's element combination or the other. For example, if breeding parent one (Split with gold antlers and silver hooves) to parent two (gemstone, not split) they may choose to have the calf either inherit parent one's gold antlers and silver hooves OR parent two's unsplit gemstone element.
Mutations (albinism, melanism, and chimerism) occur randomly and are not inherited.
When breeding a chimera, they will pass only the base coat and markings shown in their primary (first listed) phenotype. Chimeras form as a result of two embryos fusing early in development, and a chimera can only pass on the genes of the cell line that develops into their reproductive organs. A Coinflip Potion may be used one time on a chimeric Rukaan who has not yet been bred to permanently switch the sides of their phenotype.
Stats can be inherited when breeding. Parents with a higher level in a skill will be more likely to have offspring inherit a few points in that skill. If both parents have worked on improving that skill the chance is even better! This roll is optional, so if you prefer improving your offspring from the ground up you are welcome to opt out when submitting your breeding requests.
Traits can also be inherited when breeding. Traits are more likely to be passed on if both parents have the same trait. Please note: Due to an imbalance in trait occurrence in the population, the Devoted trait is less likely to pass in a breeding than other traits.
Each breeding requires a breeding permission comment for the sire and the dam, even if they belong to the user posting the breeding. There are a few things to keep in mind when posting breeding permissions. ("Breeding slots" and "Breeding permissions" both refer to the same thing in this group.)
Breeding permissions must:
Be posted by the Rukaan’s current owner. (Permissions posted by a previous owner while they still owned the Rukaan are valid.)
Be able to be used immediately once posted. Breeding permissions cannot be posted or sold for a Rukaan who has not yet unlocked breeding.
Be agreed upon by both parties, including all stipulations and limitations, before being posted. (Not necessary for gifted slots.)
Be posted with only one permission per comment. We use the total number of comments to track how many slots have been issued and used.
At minimum, include the account the breeding will be posted from and the slot number (for example, if 5 breeding slots have been posted, the next one should be numbered "6").
Breeding permissions can (but do not have to):
Specify limitations on which breeding items can or cannot be used in a breeding.
Specify a specific breeding partner to be used in the breeding.
Be used after a Rukaan is deceased or transferred to a new owner.
Request that the parent owner be given first option of purchase in case the calves are sold.
Breeding permissions cannot:
Specify that inbreeding is allowed. The group does not allow inbreeding in the visible lineage and will deny breedings with a visible common ancestor in the lineage of the sire and dam.
Be for a “split litter”. Rukaan give birth on average to 0-1 calves per birth and do not have litters so the user posting the breeding must have full rights to all calves from the sire and dam’s breeding permissions.
Specify a time limit in which the slot must be used.
Unlocking Breeding Slots
A Rukaan's breeding slots are unlocked by progressing through the Ranking system.
When posting breeding permissions, please use the following template.
Fields that are not needed can be omitted; if they are not present, it is assumed there is no limitation on the breeding.
Slot Recipient: (user who may use the slot; we recommend using da’s tag for their username because it updates in case they change their username. If the owner intends to use the slot, this must still be filled out. This field is required.)
Item/Use Limitations: (limitations such as “Cannot be used with Token of Dedication or Trickster Spirit’s Favor”)
Partner Limitations: (limitations such as “Please only breed to tame does” or "Can only be used with their mate Bob R-000")
Transfer Limitations: (limitations such as “This slot may be gifted but cannot be traded or sold”)
Slot Number: (total number of slots posted for this Rukaan including this one. This field is required.)
Final Breeding Slots are three slots that can be earned at the 2,500 Rune Mark Reward Level.
These are the final breeding slots a Rukaan can earn, but do not have to be the last breeding slots used. These will be posted to the Rukaan’s import by the group and can only be used by the Rukaan’s owner; they cannot be sold or traded. When these breeding slots are used, the breeding will give a boost towards the stats inherited by all offspring and apply the effect of your choice of ONE the following items. (Each bonus can still only be applied once per breeding. For example, you can't choose to use the Rainbow in a Bottle effect for a final breeding slot and apply the Rainbow in a Bottle item to the same breeding.)
Token of Dedication
Rainbow in a Bottle
Fruit of Yggdrasil
Thor’s Lightning
Hel’s Shadow
Skadi’s Serpent
Idunn’s Apple
Hymir’s Kettle
To use these slots, link the permission posted by RukaanOfficial in the breeding form as the breeding permission. In the "Bonuses" section of the form, specify that a Final breeding slot is being used and which item effect you would like applied to the breeding.
There are many items, traits, companions, professions/aptitudes and other bonuses that can impact a breeding.
Remember to list all bonuses in your breeding form when submitting a breeding!
To submit a breeding, please >> reply here << with the following form.
Please keep in mind:
The user posting the breeding will own the calf or calves. There are no “split litters”.
The user posting the breeding may only post a limited number of breedings per real life month. These vary by the in-game season; two in Spring, three in Summer, four in Autumn and three in Winter. Unsuccessful breedings still count towards this limit.
If a devoted submission or offering is included, these pieces must have been rolled and accepted into the group before the breeding can be processed. You must link a rune mark roll result comment when linking your devoted or offering piece in the breeding. If you link the submission and not the rune mark comment you will be asked to repost.
