Attic Access

Attic Access

My last home improvement task before PJ came was to create a way to access the attic from the hallway rather than the hallway closet. By doing this we were able to add floor to ceiling shelving to said closet, which, as of PJ's second day in the world, is almost full of his stuff. Creating the access hole in the hallway should have been easy but at some point someone installed a false lowered ceiling in the hallway to accommodate two recesses lights. This stupid extra ceiling had a joist right in the middle of my opening and it was a pain to reframe around it.

The picture below shows the closet through which I used to access the attic. I put in the adjustable shelving after I provided another attic access point.

The new way into the attic is via this hole in the hallway just outside our bedroom. Due to the dropped ceiling, and specifically a joist right where I didn't want it, this job was tougher than I expected.
