Map suitability: For years this area was referred to as the fabled "Inside the Fence" terrain. A major event gave the club the opportunity to get permission to map and the the area on a one-off basis. Middle Distance style orienteering in good reef mining terrain. Has since been used once for a Victorian Championship. Given the access sensitivity, will never be used for a local event. A special treat for a special event.
Land Manager: Coliban Water
Access issues: This is a closed catchment surrounded by an impassable fence. Access only granted after approval by Coliban Water. This is rarely granted. Please do not use this for unofficial training.
Assembly sites: Only feasible assembly is along the main pipeline access track off Diamond Hill Road through a locked gate. Lots of parking available. It coped with 900 competitors in the Easter carnival of 2012.
Safety Issues: Old mine shafts are dotted across the map.
Map status: Mapped by Chris Creely in 2012. Based on 2010 lidar data. Being a closed catchment the track network is stable. Absence of controlled burns means the vegetation is stable.
Map files: Apply to the club for a copy of the map.
