Map suitability: World class middle distance terrain in highly challenging terrain - christened Victoria's Bermuda Triangle by Blair Trewin.!
Land Manager: Parks Victoria
Access issues:
NO parking off tracks. Parking has been a highly sensitive issue in past due to conflict between orienteering parking and other visitors.
Dogs not allowed.
Dja Dja Wurrung consultation. Sensitivity over heritage sites. These sites are marked on the map with hidden symbols that can be revealed for course setters. High priority heritage sites should not be used as control sites.
Indigenous recognition statement to be used on maps for all events.
Blocks of private land on the map should not be entered without permission. Permission has not been given for some years.
The Fauna refuge zone in the east should not be used during dry seasons.
Assembly sites:
The only assembly site is along the Kingower-Wedderburn Rd. This gives good access to the challenging terrain just to the north.
4, 5 Kingower Wedderburn Road. Useable if cars park on the east side of the road before the park boundary. Approach and exit via Kurting. Competitor Instructions.
Safety Issues: In wet conditions steep rock slopes can become treacherous.
Map status: First mapped for the 1985 World Championship. Remapped in 2002 by Alex Tarr for the World Masters Championship. The remap is now 20 years old. The rock accuracy remains unchanged. Opinion is that the vegetation is thickening, particularly in the east of the map. Any significant route choices would require checking of clear vegetation leads.
Dja Dja Wurrung:
Covered by MOU
Map is available on application to the committee. This is because of sensitivity over indigenous heritage sites marked in hidden layers on the map.
