Map suitability: Quality park sprint terrain with a strong mining flavour. Bendigo specialty. The map comprises two areas separated by Lester St. The eastern area is more park-like and is known as New Argus. The west area is more ragged mining country known as South Star. Best utilised using the two areas as one.
Land Manager:
New Argus Area - Direct management but unsure if Parks or DEECA
South Star area - most is Unallocated Public Land so isn't covered by permitting legislation.
Access issues:
No entry to the fenced rehab site in the south west of New Argus block.
Keep out of the sand canyon in the South Star block.
Assembly sites:
A park on Kirkwood St is a pleasant venue. Parking along Kirkwood St. Competitor instructions.
Parking along Lester St near the intersection with Murchison St gives access to both sides of the map. Competitor instructions.
Parking along Brewery Rd. Competitor instructions.
Safety Issues:
The deep erosion gully in the sand heap area of South Star should be treated as dangerous and out of bounds.
Map status: First mapped by Neil Barr around 2005 using a cadastral base. Remapped by Neil using 2010 lidar in 2016. Minor update in 2019. Still mapped using the older ISSOM mapping specification. Track network can be dynamic.
