Map suitability: Half urban and half forest with gold mining detail. Use will require some careful thought.
Land Manager: A hotch-potch of responsibilities. The main bushland areas (Specimen Hill Bushland Reserve, Royal George Historic Area, Victoria Hill) are managed by Parks Vic. The area in the north (St Justs Point) is Uncategorised Public Land, managed by DEECA but without a legal power to issue a permit for our activities. There are other smaller blocks of DEECA land in amongst the housing developments.
Access issues: Lots of private land, some less than obvious. Large area in south fenced off for mining rehabilitation.
Assembly sites:
Bailey St. Around intersection of Bailey and Stone St. Parking in streets. Suitable for use of northern part of map (St Justs Point). Competitor instructions.
Lidell site. Parking area on Derwent Gully Road near mine rehabilitation enclosure. Parking for 25+ cars in the main clearing and the adjoining roadside clearing to the north. Competitor instructions.
Channel Crossing. Parking for many cars in a large informal clearing. Competitor instructions.
Sparrowhawk Hill. Track north off Sparrowhawk Rd leads to large clearing on hill top where there is parking for 35 cars if the locals haven't used it as their rubbish dump recently. Competitor instructions.
Empire Road. There is parking along Empire Rd, a relatively quiet yet wide street in the middle of the map. Competitor instructions.
Red Arena. Northern area of Red Arena overflow parking. Any event starting here will be a partial street orienteering experience. Its a distance from the best terrain. Competitor instructions.
