Map suitability: Mining terrain with a park on the end. A long, narrow tract of land makes for difficult course setting if you choose anything other than a start at the opposite end of the map to the finish.
Land Manager: Parks Victoria, City of Greater Bendigo (Kangaroo Flat Botanic Gardens)
Access issues:
Assembly sites: (see map below)
1- Kangaroo Flat Botanic Gardens. Convenient as there ample parking along nearby streets and there is a toilet on site. Requires permission of CoGB. Requires a distant start and careful course design to avoid road crossings. Also requires remapping of the Botanic Gardens before future use.
2- Birds Reef Lane. Parking for 50+ cars in informal cleared parking area. Safety issue is exiting onto Chapel Street. Requires care. Entry should be from the east. Exit left towards Kangaroo Flat. Competitor instructions.
3- Irwin Lane. Parking for 30 cars along either side of road. Suitable for a local event. Competitor instructions.
4- East end of Apeline Track. Lots of parking. Competitor instructions.
5- South west end of Apeline Track. Distant from the detail, but might assist course setting. Competitor instructions.
Safety Issues:
Railway line has fast and regular traffic. Should remain out of bounds.
Kangaroo Gully Road along the side of the gully has no verge at times. Should remain out of bounds.
Map Status: Mapped at 1:5,000 in 2016 by Neil Barr. No updates since then. Significant changes in the Botanic Gardens have not been mapped yet.
