Map suitability: A map with a venerable club history. It was the second map in the Bendigo area. Its a useful mix of spur gully, vague flatter areas with thickets and some surface mining features. Being on the edge of Bendigo it has been very well used.
Land Manager: Parks Victoria
Access issues:
No parking off formed roads and parking areas. No driving on vegetation.
Dogs only on a leash and on tracks. This is a legal requirement. This needs to be advertised in event information.
Residential development has made some previously used sites too congested for local event use.
Assembly sites: This is a heavily used map and its proximity to Bendigo means parking areas need to be carefully considered. The club has sought approval for four sites from Parks Victoria. These are bolded.
Djarra Picnic Area (Parks Victoria) Parking for 30 cars and a nearby overflow parking in Watson Drive, as well as a toilet (yet to be opened as of Feb 2025). Instructions for competitors. Parks permits issues - 2025.
East end of bitumen on Watson Drive (Public road) Parking for 40 cars on the north side of the road. Toilet nearby at Djarra picnic area. Instructions for competitors.
Intersection of Turner Rd and Braeside Drive (Public Road) Parking for 65 cars. Instructions for competitors.
Cousins St and Possum Crt intersection (Public Road) Sufficient parking for a local event along Possum Crt. This may change as the area develops. Reassess in 2027. Instructions for competitors.
Intersection of McIvor Hwy and Wildflower Drive. Limited parking for 20 cars. Dangerous access onto McIvor Hwy. Unsuitable for events. This may change with the residential development of the adjacent brick works site. Reassess in 2027.
Intersection of Scrub Track and Wildflower Drive. Once a common assembly area, much is now fenced off to encourage revegetation. Parking for only 10 cars. Unsuitable for local event..
Erniold Street. With housing development, the area is now unsuitable for a local event. At best parking for 15 cars and potentially very congested.
East end of Butcher Street. Now a congested area with full residential development. Unsuitable for local event.
Cassinia Drive. With residential development now unsuitable for local event. Safe parking for five cars.
Safety Issues:
Turning right onto McIvor Hwy from Wildflower Drive is no longer allowed.
There are three known mine shafts mapped. No control sites are to be placed near these features.
Map status: Mapped initially by Fortuna Seekers as Splitters Creek. Then mapped as Wildflower Drive. The third mapping was a complete renewal based on lidar undertaken by Chris Creely in 2012. It is a pre-ISOM17 map and is mapped at 1:10,000. Only some minor track updates since then.
