Map suitability: Typical subtle spur gully terrain. Suited for red line course setting.
Land Manager: DELWP [The club once referred to this area and Lyell Forest North. It has been renamed just Lyell Forest to match the nomenclature of DELWP. Areas to the south in the remainder of the old Lyell Forest map are now referred to as Pilchers Bridge, to match Parks Vic nomenclature.]
Access issues:
Assembly sites:
1- Doles Road. Parking along the road south of the crest. Not the most convenient location for course setting. Competitor instructions.
2- Parking on Czars Road south-east terminus. This is the best parking location on the map. Czars Rd here is both wide and quiet. Competitor instructions.
3-Parking on Czars Rd north-west terminus. Not quite as good as the other end of Czars Rd, but closer to novice tracks. Competitor instructions.
4- Parking along Abbots Rd near the intersection with Gerrand Track. Parking for some organiser vehicles on Gerrand track at the first minor intersection. Competitor instructions.
5. Lowndes Track saddle. This has been used in the past, but has parking for only 10-15 cars. Best only used for small training gatherings. Competitor instructions.
Safety Issues: Patons Road is busier and faster. No longer a safe parking option.
Map status: The map was a joint effort by members of the club in 1994. The track network was updated in 2016. The map was georeferenced and rubbersheeted to a lidar base in January 2023. This is version 1.4. The contours remain analog. Remapping using the lidar contours is underway.
