Whites Ruins
Retired due to land alienation
Retired due to land alienation
Map suitability: Not a lot really. Bland terrain. Beginners event and fast running in straight lines. The only reason for its existence is that it was the first use of OCAD and the mapper decided to test the new software on the forest adjacent to his home. The most notable feature is the old settlement mud brick ruins in the central neck of the map.
Land Manager: Parks Victoria (and much unoccupied private land)
Access issues:
The map has some areas of private land. This has gradually been fenced over the past decade, reducing the value of the map.
A- Believed to be owned by the City of Greater Bendigo as part of a failed plan to attract an aluminium rolling mill. Treated by local users as public open space and we should do the same. Just check that the land hasn't been sold off and developed before running an event.
B- various tracts of unoccupied alienated land. Ownership unknown. Has been abandoned for at least fifty years. Eventually this land will be sold and developed. Might be worth checking before running an event. Otherwise, just treat as public land.
Assembly sites:
Most spacious assembly area but with a sometimes rough track access.
Parking along Rathbones Lane.
Parking along Sterry Rd. Not a great site now given the recent fencing off of private land after sale.

Safety Issues: No mines. No busy roads at assemblies. Hard to get lost.
Map status: Mapped in 1995 by Neil Barr using a cadastral map as a base. Many updates since then including 2015. Map is old but given the rate of private land development, not sure its worth the effort to update. Any future use will require a good check of what is still accessible.
