Map suitability: Much of the map is typical Bendigo gentle spur gully terrain. As such it is suited to red line style course setting. Not suited to middle or long distance style courses. The alienation of private land has reduced the accessible terrain area.
Land Manager: Parks Victoria
Access issues:
The map has some areas of private land.
This is the land around what is known colloquially as Andrew's dam. We and other users have used this land for years. The land was sold during the covid real estate bubble and is now fenced off with Trespasser signs. It was a pleasant assembly area but no longer.
Assembly sites:
Rocky Rises dam area. Access via Rocky Rises Rd. Can handle perhaps 25 cars in the main area, with a further 10+ to the west of the dam. The best assembly area, but access to best terrain is not good. Competitor instructions.
The end of Drinkwater Lane (off Rocky Rises Rd). There will be a short walk to the map along a disused laneway. Best access to the better terrain. Parking is constrained. . Competitor instructions.
Safety Issues:
Map status: Mapped in 2003 by Alex Tarr using Pat Thwaites photogrammetry. Numerous additions of new tracks over intervening years. Track network is dynamic and changes quickly and MTBers and trail bikers create new tracks with impunity.
