Map suitability: One of the few maps adjacent to Bendigo suitable for long distance style course setting. Larger than usual hills and a larger area than most nearby maps.
Land Manager: Parks Victoria
Access issues:
No parking off tracks.
Small area of very steep land south of the lookout is closed to the public during orchid flowering season. No events here in Spring.
All dogs must remain on a leash and remain on tracks. The track requirement is on the One Tree Hill Park Note though not on the dog walking brochure.
Assembly sites:
This is a heavily used map and its proximity to Bendigo means it is sensible to choose parking areas carefully. A number of the sites below have bitumen access and should be preferred. They are bolded. Many other sites have been used in the past but are no longer available.
Massive bitumen parking area at Victory College with a short walk to the park along Kairn Rd. Requires permission from Victory College. You may be able to get permission to use toilets as well. Traffic light controlled entry and exit from Strathfieldsaye Rd. Suitable for a major event.
Terminus of Arunga Drive past intersection with Opperman Lane. Parking for maybe 20 cars. Track is getting rough and overgrown. Suitable for small training events only.
Parking Area at intersection of Pioneer Drive and Guys Hill Road (Parks Victoria). Space for 28 cars. Competitor instructions.
One Tree Hill Lookout (Parks Victoria). Parking for 60 cars, mostly on bitumen. Competitor instructions.
Francliffe Avenue (residential street). Parking along the northern side of Broad Parade and exit via Francis St. Competitor instructions.
Private land block off Edwards Rd in the middle of the park. Perhaps capable of parking 25 cars with careful parking management. We do not know the owner of this block so it shouldn't be used as an assembly area.
Osborne Street (residential street) Parking for 30 cars on the northern side of Osborne Street. Competitor instructions.
Friswell Avenue (residential street). Parking for 35 cars on the northern side of Friswell Street near the entry to the University. Ther eis potential for parking at the large Bendigo La Trobe car park to the north outside University term. Permission needed. Competitor instructions.
Bendigo La Trobe No 1 car park seems to be open on weekends. Car park No 2 seems to be closed on weekends. If permission to park could be gained, many cars could be parked, with a walk of a few hundred metres to the edge of the terrain.
Parking along Marnie Rd. Potential for congestion so perhaps best avoided.
Private land block used for parking many years ago. Very limited parking now and the access along Kairn Rd requires a 4wd. Do not use.
The intersection of Arunga and Guys Hill Rd. Very little parking now. Unsuitable.
The dam off Pioneer Drive was used many years ago. Us eof area now would be incompatible with permit conditions. Do not use.
Pioneer Mine site off Pioneer Drive. Very little parking within permit conditions, very rough tracks. Do not use.
Nigel McGuckian sometimes organises events starting from his residence off Tannery Lane. There is sufficient parking in dry weather, but this needs to be actively managed. Leave this option for Nigel.
Safety Issues:
Some mine shafts on the map. Do not place controls near any mine shafts.
Map status: This map has the longest history of all club maps. first mapped for the WOC 1985 carnival. Remapped in about 2013 by Chris Creely using a lidar base. No known field updates. CRT conversion to ISOM17-2 in January 2023
