Squiggle Drawing

For this assignment we had to create something out of a random squiggle done with sharpie. We started out by drawing a squiggle on a piece of paper. Next the papers were collected and redistributed so everyone had someone else's squiggle. We then had to find something inside of the squiggle. To me, the squiggle I had looked like the head and wing of a bird.

I drew the rest of the bird using an ordinary mechanical pencil. Then I colored it in using red, orange, yellow, and blue colored pencils. I chose the colored pencils because water color was not right for what I wanted to do and with markers leave behind too much pigment and I wanted some places to only be lightly colored.

Some of the element that I used were color and texture. I chose my colors carefully because I wanted the bird to look like a phoenix and not just and pencil/marker drawing on a piece of paper. I applied the color in lines to give the appearance of feathers and give the phoenix some texture.

One thing about the project that I kept changing was the feathers on the wings. It took a couple of tries to get them right.

I am proud of the colors I chose to color the bird. I was going for the fire look and I think I achieved it.

Something in my project that bothers me about my drawing it that you can still see the pencil marks where I drew the feathers o the wing and the outline of the body. If I could go back and change that I would erase the pencil lines and instead do the outline in red or orange colored pencil.
