Blind Contour Drawing

For this assignment we were asked to draw our hands and face without looking at the paper or picking up the pen and then unify the drawings. First we drew our left and with our right hand. Then we drew our right hand with our left hand. Finally we drew our self portraits. After that we had to either find something inside of our drawing or unify them in some way. In my drawing I saw a dragon.

For this drawing I used water color pencils. I wanted the dragon's fire to be the main color in the piece so I used softer colors on the actual dragon. The hands and face were drawn in sharpie so they could not be erased.

The elements and principles that I used in this drawing were balance, value and form. I use create balance by having the dragon's fire be the most colorful part of the drawing so I used duller, softer colors on the dragon. I used value and form by giving the dragon highlights and shadows and that also gave it form.

The part of my project that I am most proud of is the dragon. I am proud of it because I like the colors I chose and I am pleased that I saw a dragon in the random squiggles.

The thing that bothers me most about my project is that you can still see the pencil lines from the watercolor pencil. It had been many years since I had last use watercolor pencils and I had forgotten that they never blend right. If I could go back and do something differently I would used normal watercolors instead of the pencils.
