Painted Clay Sculpture

This is by far my favorite project we have done in 3D class so far. For this project I had to choose an animal and create a sculpture that I would eventually have to paint on. I chose to do a stingray because I wanted a simple animal that wouldn't take me years to create. I also happen to love stingrays so it was perfect. I took a long time thinking about what I wanted to paint on it and I decided that since it was an aquatic animal I might as well paint an ocean scene. Even better, how about another stingray?

There aren't many materials used to create this piece. The stingray itself is made out of clay. I did the painting with acrylic paint and then sprayed it with a matte acrylic sealant so it would last longer.

This project was more confusing than I first thought. Because of quarantine I wasn't able to sgraffito it like the original plan was to do. However, I enjoyed panting it even more and I'm glad that it turned out this way. The pictures don't do it justice but I am very proud of the final product.
