Sustained Investigation #15

This was the drawing I started for the duck stamp project but unfortunately never finished. The birds depicted in my drawing are a male and female wood duck sitting on a rock. This was a competition. piece that I will probably end completing for next year's competition. I chose the wood duck as my subject because I wanted the birdI drew to have lots of color so I could get experience blending vibrant colors with colored pencil. The wood duck was the most colorful North American duck.

For this piece I have only used colored pencil. I don't intend on using anything else because I am afraid of ruining it. To be safe I am going to stay with what I know.

I think that I will definitely complete this drawing at some point. My next step is to finish the male. Once both birds are complete I will draw the stone they are on and fill in the background. I am going to keep the background very simple so that my birds are the main focus of he piece. I am very proud of the progress I have made on this drawing so far and I hope that when it is done I still have the same feelings.
