This project had a lot of steps involved. The first step was to design a pattern that fit into a 5 x 5 square in space. I chose to make a flower with multiple petal layers and some leaves on the side because I didn't want it to be too complicated. I then made a bunch of copies of the pattern and cut out the pieces so I could trace them onto the clay. After that I used the pieces to cut the clay into pieces that matched my design and stuck them together. Immediately after that I had to pour plaster around it. It had to be wet or else the design would not come out of the plaster mold. The next step was the step that I found the most annoying. After the mold was cleaned and prepped I had to take soft clay and squish it into the mold. When it came out I had to smooth out all of the areas where the clay had come together or gotten messed up when coming out of the mold. That was irritating because they all looked awful when they first came out. I did that process five times because one of them broke and I needed four.
Glazing them broke my heart. The glaze went on nice and it look pretty. I had high hopes for when it was fired but after it came out of the kiln all of my hopes were killed. The different colors had bled together and looked horrible. Saying I hate them isn't enough. They are very disappointing but at least they were a good learning lesson about glazing.
