Skulls

This is watercolor painting of two skulls, a horse skull and a ram skull. The eye sockets are the ink drops that were on my paper. When the paper was given to me I had no idea what I saw in it. After a few minutes my mind went where it usually does, to skulls and bones. To me the ink dots looked quite a bit like eye sockets. A lot of my artwork includes skulls and this was no exception. I have always had a fascination with them and it is reflected in my artwork.

The majority of this painting is made with water colors. However, the skulls are outlined in pen to make them stand out a little better from the background.

I wasn't originally going to have a background in my painting but when I finished painting the skulls the painting still didn't have a finished appearance. I decided to add the colored background to provide contrast and make the skulls the focal point. I chose the colors specially so they would go with the brown horn on the ram skull and the grey shades on both skulls. Overall, I am very pleased with the way it came out and I don't think there is anything I would do to change it.
