New Vision of an Old Work #1

For this project I took one of my older pieces of work and used it as inspiration for a new piece. I chose the the dragon and human skeleton drawing that I started for one of my sustained investigation. I never finished that project but I kind of liked the idea that I had. I decided to keep the human skull but I changed up the dragon to a dragon skull because I liked that better. I found some images online and combined them to fit my vision. I used that image I created to for the final predict that you see above.

This was a sgraffito project so the materials that are used here are clay, black underglaze, and clear shiny glaze that is not present in that picture. There is also photoshop which I used to create the image and printer paper which I used to transfer the image to the clay.

Sgraffito was not my original choice of material for this project. My first idea was to draw a dragon skull and use the stippling technique to shade it like I did with the inspiration piece. But, after I'd drawn it out I was not motivated to complete it. It was too simple and boring for me and didn't bring me any joy. So, I decided to do another sgraffito piece because I had a lot of fun with the last one and wanted to try it again. I'm glad I did because did I not only enjoy this project but it also came out a lot better than I thought it would.
