Sustained Investigation #14

This is a new project I have started. This is the sketch that I will use for my final. I decided I wanted to do another bird drawing because I have had fun in the past drawing birds. My inspiration, after a lot of research, is very colorful Nicobar Pigeon. I wanted to use a bird with vibrant colors for my drawing and this bird exceeded my expectations. It is all colors of thee rainbow and unusually beautiful for a pigeon. This bird is not endangered which I found surprising.

I plan on using colored pencil for this piece. I haven't painted a bird yet and I still want to practice more with colored pencils. However, I may end up changing my mind.

My next steps are to outline it with pen, trace it and then copy it onto bristol paper. I am doing this because I want a clean, light outline. I drew it out with the grid first because I wanted to get the proportions and feather pattens correct and I knew it would be a mess. This drawing should turn out interesting because I don't have much experience with birds and this will give me some practice. I really enjoy drawing all the feathers. The detail appeals to me.
