My experiences in the class were the best I have had in an art class so far. I liked the projects better and I felt like I had more freedom when it came to deciding the subjects of my projects. I feel as though throughout this class, my art has improved. Some of the projects pushed me to do my best and apply different techniques and skills to it. I was also taught new skills and techniques that I think helped me to grow as an artist.
The most changeling thing about this class was definitely the projects where I had no prior experience with the materials or that I didn’t enjoy whatsoever. The wire sculpture project was a combination of those two things. It was very difficult and I wasn’t sure how to make the sculpture, so that was a struggle. Other projects, such as the block printing project, were difficult as well simply because I had never done anything like that and I didn’t fully understand what I was doing.
I am most proud of the projects that involved acrylic paint. Painting is what I am best at so naturally those were my best pieces of work. The painted collage project was by far my favorite. I am extremely proud of the way that it turned out. The painting looks almost exactly like the college and it was far better than I expected it to turn out. The rose on that painting is the best part and some people didn’t even believe that it was painted. That project is definitely my best piece of art that I had done in a couple of years.
There are certain pieces of art that show my strengths and weaknesses. The projects that involved paint were my strengths so they looked the best. However, projects that involved materials like wire and normal pencil drawings are not what I am good at. As a result, they were not as strong as the others. But, overall I am very pleased with all of my projects this year.
