For this project I had to create a sculpture that described my first four months of school with one sheet of paper. First, I had to choose a word. I chose the word hectic originally but when I finished with the sculpture and saw the feedback I changed my word to draining. The skeleton hand represents how school sucks the life out a person. The ends of the bones are frayed to show that the hand is slowly disintegrating. The life, or flesh, has been drained from the hand leaving only the skeletal remains. I'll admit. School has been rather exhausting, frustrating, and overall draining which is why I chose the skeleton.
The materials used on this sculpture are paper and glue. I didn't want to add any color many because bones are white when they are fresh.
There were several steps I took when creating this sculpture. First I drew the original. Then I cut out a second skeleton hand and layered it over the original. I separated the bones and layered them individually. I did this to make the hand slightly more rigid so I would stand better. After that I put glue on the wrist and some of the joints on the fingers so I could set it in a slightly curled position. The last thing I did was crinkle the strands of paper on the end to give it that frayed look.
