Inclusion Design

We're all the same

This project represents what what it means to treat and see that disabled people are the same as us. I chose to represent the inclusion in a more abstract way. My drawing is of a skull with a hearing devise surrounded by flowers. Flowers are typically associated with happy things and symbolize happiness. They are placed around the skull to show that the hearing aid only adds to the wellbeing of the person and is merely an extension to make them happy. The skull shows that they look the same as us. If not on the outside then on the inside.

For this project I used colored pencils and a white chalk pencil on a background of toned . This was a new experience for me because I haven't ever used colored pencils on toned paper.

Like many of my other drawings I went into this project with a fixed idea and didn't alter it much. The only things that I changed were the types of flowers depending on where they were being placed and what color I wanted. I also was originally going to have the words we are all the same on the inside but I chose to leave that out and leave the interpreting to the person viewing my work. I am glad that I made these changes and I am very satisfied with the way my drawing turned out.
