Artist Statement:
For this project, I wanted to try and remake the first SI I did which was Daemonophobia. In this one I made a character of a person reaching for a cross in hopes of going to Heaven which is furthest from the demons in Hell. The horns on it's head are to represent the halo of an angel, but to also show the possibility of a demon or devil. In the background there are bible verses that relate to demons and Hell. I had to do a lot of research for this specific piece because I do not believe in any Gods, so I had to guess a lot and get help from my mother and google.
To make this I used chalk pastel for the background and alcohol marker for the writing and the character, and i used snakeskin and glued it to paper to make clothes.
My original plan was to have the character and with the wall behind would just have a basic gray wall, but I decided to cut it out and make a new "wall" using chalk pastels as color and I used alcohol marker to ass biblical text. I also changed it to have the second or further arm to be pushing a snake to the wall, representing it's dislike or fear towards the demon Lucifer who appears in the garden of eden as a snake. The snake skin as clothes for the character further shows that. On the tips of the fingers reaching for the cross, I have them as changing color to show that the closer he gets to the cross, the more "safe" he would be. The green being the positive and the yellow being the beginning transition (taken from a stoplight).
