Artist's Statement:

I wanted to try something new and create a piece of clothing with all handmade materials. My goal was to crochet a granny square cardigan with a rim and buttons.

To make this, I used red, yellow, and green small cut yarn, a 6mm crochet hook, a sewing needle, and clay.

I started off by measuring out how big the cardigan was going to be, and the size of the hook I was going to need. I then sketched on a sticky note all the squares of each size and color that I would need. I figured out A pattern to use and started making squares. I was inspired by the colors of fall. I started this in early november and the colors seemed to match somewhat. In total I made 27 small squares, and 8 larger squares. I started to have trouble near the end when I was putting it all together. I began to sew the squares together but I couldn't get the ends of the yarn to not stick out. I used very small sewing string to tie the loose ends together. I used clay to make buttons, and sewed them on to the sides.
