Surrealism Painting

Acrylic on Canvas

For this project I was told to create a collage using different paper scraps, and a printed image. I then transferred a somewhat similar image onto a painted piece of canvas.

For the collage, I used assorted cutouts from magazines, and a carpet sample, as well as a printed out image of a character. For the painting, I used a pencil and eraser to sketch out the design, then I used the primary colors plus black and white to get the right colors. I painted it on a piece of cut out canvas.

I started by gridding the canvas and sketching out where everything was placed. I soon began painting, and I started off at the top right corner because I had to splatter white paint, and I did not want it to get on pre painted canvas. I moved on to painting the background for the fish, and the base color of the carpet. Painting the fish in the storm were fairly simple, but I had a little trouble with the character. I tend to stick more to sketching and coloring when it comes those those types of art, so I forgot that you couldent erase paint wich ended in a lot of smears. I also accidentally dropped a blob of black paint after I had relatively finished painting, so I covered it in an extra green dot.
