Artist's statement:

My task was to create a picture with an ink blot on it, and I had to create around it in order to turn the blot into art. When I first saw it, I couldn't really figure out what to do with it. I slept on it, and the next morning when I woke up, I had an idea. I saw the ink as two hot air balloons in the distance, but slightly tilted to the side. I added two more balloons to fill up some space and the wind as a background. I chose to name this Waves of carbon because wind and air remind me of elements of the periodic table, and air is part carbon dioxide. The materials I used were Brush markers of 9 different colors, ink, a black paint pen, pencil, and a fine tipped sharpie. Before I colored in the picture, i was deciding between graphite and marker. I wanted to use graphite because its a medium that i love using, but I chose to use marker and color instead because it had been a few days since i had made something in color. I also thought that adding complementary colors would make the picture pop.
