Scratch Board

Artist statement: 

  My goal was to create a black and white image of my chicken using a reference photo and a scratchboard. I chose this photo specifically because it had a lot of contrast, and it gave me the opportunity to try to draw feathers. 

I used scratchboard, and wire and/or metal scratching tools.

I started by changing the photo to black and white, and adding more contrast. After printing it out I put the paper over the board and traced out the basic shapes with a dull pencil. I then went in and slowly drew each feather, branch, and all the small details.
