Artist Statement:

My goal was to create a piece of art that was able to show how dragonflies affect their environment.

I used paper, cardboard, wood, a knife, and a wood burner to create this.

I started off by creating a dragonfly out of thin cardboard in different parts. I took a shiny silverish paper and cut out veins for half the wings, traced, and cut it out for the other side. I felt that it was missing something so I added a small diamond to its back and while it seems small it definitally changed it signifigantly. I couldent just have the dragonfly as my project, so I decided to make a swampy background with wood. Through sketching, all was well until there was a huge storm that knocked the power out. I was unable to finish burning the wood for some time but eventually over winter break we managed to get power back. I completed the wood piece and attached the dragonfly to the swamp.
