Artist Statement:

When creating this piece, I aimed for scatters and realism. I chose the boxed candies so I would be able to take them out of the box and spread them across the table. I chose to add a wrapped candy because I also wanted to add a more challenging thing to draw.

For the Charleston Chew, I used yellow, green, blue, red, and brown colored pencils, and a black ink pen for the small details. I used brown and greed pencils for the mint candies, and I used red, orange, yellow, green, black, and blue colored pencils for the dots and the box.

I started off by sketching a basic outline of the candies on a white sheet of paper. When moving on to coloring, I became a little nervous. I am not used to adding both color and detail into a drawing. I normally only use detail with graphite, and color with abstract art. I started out with the dots box and after I moved on to the other box. My first attempt at shading did not go as well as I wanted to. It kinda ended up looking like a hole. I learned from my mistakes and added better shading to the rest of them. I ended with the Charleston Chew. I drew on the fine writing but I accidentally smudged the ink before it dried so it looks a little messy. Overall, after all the challenges, I found this a pretty fun piece to make.
