2D Art and Design

Semester 1 Reflection:

This year in art, I believe that I have been successful in learning new techniques and polishing ones I already had. Within most projects that I have made this year, I noticed that many had an aspect of paper cutting. This is most certainly my favorite thing to do. I tend to stick with a photo I originally had, but it seems that I was able to hand design a picture or image of my liking. I have gotten better in making sure the cuts are even and clean as well as adding small details that I would normally overlook. It also looks like I have tried many new medias this year. Digital drawing was not entirely new to me, but I was still in the process of learning the basics. I was able to work with photoshop and a drawing app to create 4 different art pieces this year.

I think that this year I really struggled with making sure that my art was able to properly portray my prompt. The map design for example was supposed to show a path I take often. While that was something I did, it was very difficult to actually see it in the final project (the candle). I also know I could have done better in turning my art in on time. There were several instances where I would turn things in late, or maybe my google site was not finished. I plan to work on this.

Moving forward, I want to be able to come up with ideas that reflect a certain theme. I guess this is not particularly to improve the physical art, but to help my creativity expand. Bugs and weird things are my favorite things to draw, but I also want to be able to make realistic things, detailed images, or maybe something out of clay. Like the duck stamp, I want to be able to make a detailed image, but I also want to make a background that makes the image pop. That is something I wish I got around to changing on the duck. I also really want to complete a goal of mine that I had last year which is to make a cut out paper design on a large scale. Overall, I had a great time this semester learning about the fundamentals of design and continuing to create new art.
