Artist Statement:
For my third sustained investigation I decided to do nosophobia which is the fear of disease. I decided to focus on a bat as my main subject because a lot of diseases are spread or formed through wild animals, commonly bats. I used charcoal to represent how many times people would burn down the deceased person who passed from ebola and everything they owned to kill the virus. I used diamond dots as part of the cave background to represent small bugs or viruses.
I started by Sketching the bat in the corner, and the background. My original plan was to have the bat being surrounded by viruses but I completely forgot about it until I was almost done with the piece as a whole. I colored the bat and cave with charcoal. When it came down to the last part with the dots, I used black pencil to draw where I wanted them to go, and I used puzzle mod podge to glue them on individually. This part was very time consuming because each dot had to be individually placed and adjusted.
