Chromophobia
Alcohol Marker, and Colored Paper Pieces
Artist Statement:
For this piece I continued with making characters that have the fear listed, this person has the fear of colors. The person is ripping out its eye because the pupil has started to show colors and there are other parts of the body that the person has already removed because the color is there. On the side of the cheek, right ear, and part of the nose have been cut off and there are lines of color showing that it once was there. On the other eye there is color beginning to show, highlighting that color will always be here and it will keep coming back if you try to remove it. This can go for both a mental or physical way.
I used alcohol markers for the character and colored pieces of paper for the background.
Similarly to the previous project, I made the character on a separate paper and cut it out to put it on the background. For the background I took little pieces of colored paper used for scrapbooking and put them out as a burst/outward triangles. I started with orange and went in a clockwise direction. I got to red and realized the papers were actually stickers so I could have saved a lot of time gluing and taping. I was coloring the face with a base color at a family friend's house while doing a hot sauce challenge thing with a bunch of kids and one of the kids threw up on one of my markers so I had to draw the hands with a slightley different color.
