For my 7th SI I decided to focus on a phobia that isn't commonly known to be a thing which is the fear of flowers, or anthophobia. the fear can stem (no pun intended) from the roots to the pollen of the flower. The fear is most commonly formed by association with bees and the sting, allergies, and funerals. I decided to make an image of a girl standing in a grassy field and a giant flower coming out of the ground and eating her head. I was inspired by Louis Wain and his sharp and bright designs, Matisse and the bright colors, and Edvard Munch for the use of oil pastels and designs.
To make this I used alcohol markers for the background, puffy paint to make little dots on the mushrooms, and oil pastels for the plant. I used fake leaves I had from a fake plant and used them to add texture to the leaves in the drawing.
I started with my sketch having kid style scribbled clouds and a corner sun, with a vaguely realistic person and a flower thing. When I sketched it on a larger piece of paper I added mushrooms just to make it more fun. I changed the clouds to be more misty, mostly because I thought it would match more with the design. When drawing the flower I used oil pastels and just drew a stem coming up from the ground, and the bulb eating a girl's head. I struggled a little making the orange of the dress pigmented enough to cover the design underneath. Overall I really like this.
