Artist Statement:
For my final sustained investigation, I had my idea planned since around the 6th or 7th. My plan was to incorporate a bunch of previously made characters into the art and have them interact. I did this because every character I make starts with me drawing some part of a person and adding to it. I decided that would be the basis of this fear, which is the fear of human like creatures. I knew I wanted to have the girl happy and caring for something else, and then I added the apple in the corner away from the attention. The fly is hiding from the spider, the cat dosent have a weird neck problem, and finally my favorite character I've made, Jippy. I really just needed to fill in the background space and I wanted him to be in it.
I used pen to outline the characters, and alcohol marker to color it in. I used chalk pastel to make the background and the rainbows. For Jippy, I printed him out on a smaller scale and put him in a little box and glued teeth to him to solve his problem because he has no jaw. I used real baby teeth. I also used washi tape.
The sketch I made got very altered as it went on. When I made the box Jippy was in, I added tape to the inside walls to add a bit more texture with washi tape. My mom helped me figure out something for my material synthesis, so I used baby teeth that she kept and glued it to the paper.
