Artist Statement:
For my second sustained investigation I chose to focus on Hemophobia which is the fear of blood. It mainly sprouts from traumatic events so I wanted to show a heart pumping blood, and I used gauze on the border to show healing. I used colored pencil for the veins, heart, and the dots.
I started by drawing a sketch of a heart as best as I could. It is by far not anatomically correct, but by looking at it you can tell that it's a heart. I drew it in pencil so it was impossible to see. I added the veins sprouting from it and began coloring. I am not normally one for detailed/realistic work, so I tried to show that its supposed to be relatively realistic by using a variety of colors to the white parts. Filling in the veins and heart was pretty simple, I used blues and purples to make a base, and colored over it in red. I used some orange to lighten it in some areas. It looked pretty bland so I added dots surrounding the veins. I didn't realize how long it was going to take.
