Beautiful Is Boring

Artist Statement:

I was told to create an image using zentangle hands telling a story. I first chose to create hands in a shape of a bowl with water flowing out, however I decided not to go with that seeing as how many people were taking the same photo reference of their hands. I decided to go with something a little more personal instead.

I used white watercolor paper, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, a pencil and eraser, and a .02, and .06 mm pen.

I started off by sketching the hands in a placement that I saw fit. I then measured out where and how I wanted the border to be positioned. After putting tape around the edge I mixed yellow, red, and a small amount of blue to make the brown-ish color for the background. After that dried I added a few extra coats to make sure it was one solid color. I traced around the hands and just doodled inside them. for the right I just did some random patterns until I got to the actual hand part where I added cracking to show fear. for the left hand I added band-aids with hearts to show growth and to kinda tell people in the same situation "you will be okay"  and "you can get through this". I ripped the edges of the paper intending to add bandages to keep them togeather but I was unable to find any. I also tried to messily trace around the border.
