shadows and reflections

Artist Statement:

For this assignment, we were told to take photos of shadows and reflections. I liked this assignment mainly because we took photos on a day with lots of sunlight which made for both very apparent reflections and shadows.

I found that with this project it was really helpful to get different angles because this not only made the shadows and reflections more apparent but it made it interesting for the viewer and it drew them out to take up more of the negative space. I used probably the most extreme angle with the photo on the left and I like the way it turned out and how you can almost see the light of the sun while it is still black and white. The photo on the right had less of an angle which I think still looks interesting but if it were more angled and had more contrast it would be a stronger photo.

Lastly, my favorite photo is definitely the one on the left, of the windows because it looks really clean, I like the angle and how it looks against the windows. I also like that even though the photo is black and white you can still really clearly see the sun and how it is refecting off of the windows which I think makes the photo more interesting to look at. Although I like the photo on the right, I think that the film I took that round was just really light so next time I would try and take photos with a wider range of light and dark. I would also try and focus the photo differently so that the lines are cleaner.
